“Leaves are verbs that conjugate the seasons.” ― Gretel Ehrlich, The Solace of Open Spaces

On the county road we have a Lazarus Tree. It’s an old scraggly cottonwood that has been devastated by disease, drought, and probably lightening. And yet this tree lives and is mostly thriving as well you can expect a tree to thrive in the middle of a prairie. He told me the county tried to cut it down by he talked them out of it. The next summer a few of the trees branches had leaves and with each summer the tree held more leaves. Bedraggled and messy but standing up strong.
