November 24, 2023

Yesterday morning I rode along with him to check the water tanks and count the cows. The prairie looked scrubby, sad, and thirsty. I could hear geese flying above the low gray clouds when it occurred to me this was the November-est November day we’ve had so far. The cows were close to the water tank and content because they had managed to break through the delicate skim of ice.

Today, we are covered in snow although the prairie tells another story because it will take many feet of heavy snow to cover the still tall weeds. But there is enough snow to cover the dirt and low growing grass. I’m glad the weather people weren’t teasing us with the hope of snow today.
